Background behind this walking tour - 3

back ...

Because I like to hike I, at some point, got the idea to walk further, namely to the most Southern point of Germany. Perhaps even further, or also to walk from Göttingen to the most Northern point of Germany, either on the isle of Sylt or to Norddeich. The fact that I limit myself to Germany has a quite simple reason. In 1980 I broke my left ankle. In the course of time an arthrosis developed itself, preventing me from walking longer legs. Especially in the mountains the arthrosis causes a lot of pain. And if I don't treat the arthrosis with care I risk that the ankle must be stiffenend, so I can not hike anymore at all.

The beeline between the Northern and the Southern points (of Germany) looks like following. Comparing to the original tour a little extension. Instead of a beeline of 250 kilometres now more like 1000 kilometres. So additionally three times the same distance.

But also here is true, that one walks seldomly as the crow flies. The tour walked thus far looks in reality more like the picture on the next page.
